I Learned So Much At Blog Orlando Today!

Author: admin  //  Category: Conferences

This was the 2nd annual BlogOrlando, a free event made possible by Josh Hallett & sponsors!!! They gave away 3 or 4 Ipods, about 20-30 Universal Studios Tickets and BlogOrlando was given $1,000 to spend at City Walk. We all received free t-shirts! Everyone likes free stuff!

I had a really nice day, learning about something that you have a passion for is always fun!

I definately want to get in to Vlogging. You don’t need an expensive camera to the job.

John Rife lead a session on Video Blogging. He and his wife took a 3 month trip around the country making a video blog all along the way. It is called Finding America. He had to be one of the best speakers of the day. He was really funny and a good speaker. That is hard to find!

He gave us a lot of good resources to check out. Just two name a few…

The Video Blogging session made the Orlando Sentinel!

There were four tracks to choose from and I chose the technical track. The only session I missed that I would have like to have seen was Product Development. I hope someone taped it and will post it.

The sessions that I attended were

Podcasting - Lead by Ryan Price

SEO - Lead by Mark Jaquith
Design On A Dime - Jeremy Harrington

Blogging Basics - Chris Scott

Blogging Tools -Lead by Judson Collier - 16 years old! You would never know it!

Wordpress -Lead by Mark Jaquith

After going to this, I really want to go to BlogWorld in Vegas in November now!!!

I attended the BlogOrlando event as well, that is me in the green shirt a few rows behind you. I was in the Technical track as well. I had a great time. I already bought a domain name (theupfrontmortgagebroker dot com)for my blog and moved it over from a blogspot domain to my hosted one. I was completely energized by the vlog presentation, I thought he did a great job of presenting and I am now extremely inspired to get a vlog site up and running.

By the way, sorry to hear about your 20% paycut, my wife is a teacher and she makes a little more than dirt so I understand how you feel.

Great site. I love your openness and honesty. Thanks for sharing you insights on debt and your journey to be debt free.

I’m so glad you got some good stuff out of the videoblogging session. I look forward to seeing your first vlog sometime this year. Make it a mission. Imagine if you had vlogged your Turks and Cacos trip. BTW we’re jealous.

Anyhow keep up the good work and see you at the next BlogOrlando if not sooner.

    John,

My husband and I were just talking about you and your wife’s trip last night. We were trying to figure out how we could swing it financially and take our own trip. I would LOVE it. Traveling is another passion of ours. We just can’t get enough of it. It is so exciting. I think we will have to wait until we are out of debt to be able to do it without worrying. Did you guys make money along the way? How much did your trip cost if you don’t mind me asking?

Are you going to BlogWorld in Vegas? I would love to go. What other events are coming up that I should know about?

I do have video from Turks and Caicos maybe I will have to do something with it. It was taken on an old camera and is on a tape!! How old fashioned are 8mm tapes!? That was only 3 years ago.
